Class 7’s Volcanic Eruptions.

Today we continued our learning about how volcanoes erupt. We found out that the gas which makes volcanoes erupt is carbon dioxide (CO2). In order to see this for ourselves, we did an experiment. We created a mixture of water, baking powder and washing up liquid and then added vinegar. The vinegar made the mixture erupt!

We learned that the chemical reaction of an acid (the vinegar) being added to the alkali (the baking powder) created CO2 – the same thing which makes a volcano erupt.
