Chocolate Rocks!

As part of our theme topic we have been learning about rocks. There are 3 types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Today, we demonstrated how each rock is made using chocolate – delicious and scientific!

Adding sediment:IMG_4651

Pressure turns the layers of sediment into sedimentary rock:IMG_4657 IMG_4658

A piece of sedimentary rock:IMG_4673IMG_4670IMG_4669

Applying heat (from our hands) and pressure to change the sedimentary rock into metamorphic rock:IMG_4671IMG_4674

Here is some of the work we wrote afterwards to show what we had learnt:

Can you tell Class 7 any more facts about rocks?

Cool study of rock formation and the application of time & pressure! Found the study of Santorini’s caldera formation & history of Greece’s volcanic activity interesting on a trip there this past summer. http://volcano.si.edu/volcano.cfm?vn=212040
